2025. 5. 9. 싱가포르 중심부에 위치한 Maxwell Chambers Suites 내 싱가포르 변호사협회(The Law Society of Singapore) 사무실에서 뜻깊은 교류의 시간을 가졌습니다.
저는 부산지방변호사회(Busan Bar Association) 국제이사로서 이번 공식 방문에 함께했습니다. 우리를 환영해주신 싱가포르 변호사협회 회장 Lisa SAM Hui Min 회장님의 따뜻한 인사로 행사는 시작되었고, 이어 국제교류위원회 공동위원장 Gerald Yee 변호사님께서 싱가포르의 법률 환경과 변호사 제도, 그리고 법조계의 글로벌 협업 가능성에 대한 종합적인 설명을 해주셨습니다.
특히 인상 깊었던 점은, 싱가포르가 아시아의 법률 허브로서 얼마나 체계적으로 제도화되어 있는지, 그리고 국제 분쟁 해결 및 중재의 중심지로서 어떤 전략적 위치를 점하고 있는지에 대한 설명이었습니다. 부산 역시 글로벌 해양도시로서 이러한 싱가포르의 사례에서 배울 점이 많다는 생각이 들었습니다.
이날 자리를 통해, 법률 실무에 있어 각국 변호사 간의 협업 가능성, 국제 분쟁 해결을 위한 네트워크 구축, 젊은 변호사들의 해외 진출에 대한 새로운 시각을 공유할 수 있었던 점이 매우 의미 있었습니다.
이번 방문은 단순한 방문 이상의 의미가 있었습니다. 앞으로도 부산과 싱가포르, 더 나아가 아시아 각국 법조계 간의 긴밀한 협력과 상호 성장을 기대하게 된 소중한 자리였습니다. 다시 한 번 따뜻하게 맞아주신 The Law Society of Singapore의 모든 관계자분들께 감사드리며, 이번 만남이 양 지역 법조계 협력의 든든한 초석이 되길 바랍니다.
I had the privilege of joining the official delegation of the Busan Bar Association (BBA) to visit the Law Society of Singapore, located at Maxwell Chambers Suites in the heart of the city.
We were warmly welcomed by President Lisa SAM Hui Min, followed by an insightful presentation by Gerald Yee, Co-Chairperson of the International Relations Committee. His presentation offered a comprehensive overview of Singapore's legal system, the regulatory framework, and the evolving role of lawyers in a rapidly globalising world.
I was particularly impressed by how Singapore has positioned itself as a legal hub in Asia, with a strong infrastructure for dispute resolution and international arbitration. For Busan—a global maritime city—there is much to learn from Singapore’s strategic legal development.
This meeting provided an excellent opportunity to explore avenues for collaboration between legal professionals across jurisdictions. It also offered meaningful perspectives on international legal practice and potential partnerships that could benefit young lawyers looking to broaden their global exposure.
More than a formal visit, this was a significant step toward deepening cooperation between our legal communities. I sincerely thank the Law Society of Singapore for their generous hospitality and look forward to continued dialogue and engagement in the future.
